Spanish Bite – Using “Sino / Sino que” in Spanish

¡Hola!

Welcome to this NEW series on incredibly short Spanish lessons!

In this lesson, we’ll talk about the phrases “Sino” and “Sino que” in Spanish. They mean “but”, “but rather” or “but instead”, and we use them to link ideas in a sentence that are different from one another. Unlike “pero” (but), “sino” is used when the first part of the sentence is negative and the next part contradicts the first part. We use “sino que” when there is a conjugated verb used after it.

There are two bite-sized versions of this topic. One that is one minute long and the other is under four minutes. Enjoy!
