“Asà asÃ,” like “caramba” are a little old-fashioned in Spanish. As a native speaker I would just not use them!

Rebeca: ¿Qué tal? is a very informal way to ask your friends how they are. So, instead of asking your best friend: How are you? ¿Cómo estás? you ask : ¿Qué tal? As a response: bien, muy bien, mal, muy mal , más o menos (“more or less” ), asi asi (so-so).
¿Qué tal? es muy informal y usado con tus amigos. Puedes preguntar también: ¿Cómo estás? Como respuesta: bien, muy bien, mal, muy mal , más o menos (“more or less” ), asi asi (so-so) Espero que te ayude.
¿Qué tal? es más “How’s it going?” porque se responde con “bien” o “mal”
